Description

The medical research council at the University of Cambridge wanted to prototype an app and a study group analysis to understand qualitative and quantitative effects of rare medical disease. We developed an end to end solution including web back office, anonymisation engine, participant registration process, data analysis platform and an Apple iOS app, based on underlying functions of apple heath kit. The function of the app was for the patients to record and share their daily health, well-being and fitness data in a non-personally identifiable method.

Requirements

  • Provide an easy to use platform for patients to monitor, record and share their health, fitness and well-being data.
  • Enable the clinical research participants to perform various tests like hearing, gait, balance, coordination etc using the app and automatically collect the results
  • Generate analytics & report based on results collected and patterns recorde
  • Have a separate patient onboarding process, independent of the platform to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Backend reporting and data analysis capabilities.

What we did

Research

  • Strategic consulting and solution architecting.
  • Feasibility analysis to understand capabilities of what Apple HealthKit offers and possibility to achieve research objectives.
  • Review and research on Apple HealthKit & ResearchKit to record the activities and collect the data
  • Understood and analysed the data recorded using Apple HealthKit & ResearchKit and process them to covert in statistical, readable and business intelligence format
  • Implemented a robust architecture for data security, patient confidentiality and development of encryption algorithms for personal data decoupled and segregated from clinical, statistical data.
